Germaine Greer on gardening in drought

Climate Change, UK Climate Change

Ms Greer is a passionate gardener who like me believes that there is a way throught the current hose-pipe bans if we take time to notice what has been happening in our gardens over the past few years:

“If you look at the plants clumping up in your garden right now, you will see plenty that have already come through three years of drought. Rather than lamenting the loss of treasures that have disappeared, having succumbed either to prolonged drought stress or to the 16 degrees of frost that bit into the ground in February, it is time to appreciate the plants that have endured, and to help them to be the best they can be.”

I am not an experienced gardener - more of an enthusiastic amateur who learns by trial and error and is keen to "manage" the effects of the weather on my garden. Writing this blog is my passion and I hope that it will continue to grow, allowing global gardeners to communicate about the effects of climate change on our plants and the future of our gardens.
