Climate Change Gardening

Calling all gardeners interested to discover how their garden can act as a vital carbon store.

How can our passion for gardening inspire action on climate change for a sustainable future?

On 1st and 2nd October 2021, Climate Gardens is launching two innovative Workshops in the stunning gardens at Herstmonceux Castle located in the peaceful East Sussex countryside.

Climate Gardens Future Workshops harness the UK’s insatiable passion for gardens and plants to connect gardeners with the bigger picture of a changing climate and its impact on all our futures.

They are being held in the beautiful Courtyard Gardens of the historical 12th century Castle located at the centre of the 300 acre Herstmonceux Estate.

The overall aim is to provide an enjoyable garden experience plus ideas for guests to create personal low carbon actions including recycling, reducing, reusing and other simple choices that will plant seeds for a personal sustainable future.

Guy Lucas, Gardens and Grounds Manager, Herstmonceux Estate, East Sussex

Guy will explain how he and his team are creating a new vision for the gardens plus using sustainable land practises to manage over 300 acres with a collection of ancient and protected trees.

Sally Nex, Author of How to Garden the Low Carbon Way

Sally will talk about how the UK’s million acres of gardens already lock away over 62 million tonnes ( 68 million tons) of Carbon. She will expound  her view that gardening is a can-do activity that can help us lead more sustainable lives, gain an understanding of the environment, witness the vagaries of nature and adapt our gardening habits to embrace biodiversity and prepare our plants and gardens for an uncertain future.

These inspiring talks will be interspersed by a series of innovative and interactive coaching workshops led by two highly trained climate coaches. With experience of working with individual clients and small groups to harness personal change, these coaches will guide guests on a personal uplifting journey to discover how their gardens and gardening can be a catalyst for sustainable living.

Individuals will leave feeling empowered and excited to plant and grow their own low carbon future. Each guest will also receive a generous Sustainability Gift Bag containing gardening themed gifts:

Do not miss this exclusive event if  you have an interest in gardening and plants.

Tickets include all day entry to Herstmonceux Estate, Climate Gardens Sustainability gift bag, refreshments and home made cakes.

I am not an experienced gardener - more of an enthusiastic amateur who learns by trial and error and who is keen to "manage" the effects of shifting weather patterns on my garden. Writing this blog is my passion and it has evolved over 12 years to inspire engagement with climate change outside our back doors, in our personal gardens and green spaces. My mission is to fertilise and expand this platform to grow a community of global gardeners communicating about the effects of climate change on our plants and exploring how each individual can make small changes in our lives to become more sustainable. The future of our gardens and #OurPlanet is in our hands - please plant your own seeds for our collective sustainable future.
